ETHAN malinis
Name: Ethan Malinis
Age: 12
Sport & Organization: Basketball - KAO Youth Basketball
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Scholarship Date: January 1, 2018
Ethan plays basketball and realized early on how his performance on the court and academic success go hand in hand. Showing up as a member of his sports team at KAO Youth Basketball has taught Ethan how to work well with others and communicate effectively, as well as how to focus.
The future Ethan is building for himself is centered on getting a good college education and finding meaningful professional work. He feels fortunate to be able to play a competitive sport he enjoys and, like his two older siblings, understands it is a privilege he has earned by studying hard and getting good grades.
Ethan was nominated by his father, Michael Malinis, a U.S. Navy veteran who served during four major deployments to the Middle East. He made sure organized sports was something his children experienced, as he himself did not have that while growing up. Receiving the Randy Jones Foundation Scholarship means the world to Ethan and the rest of the Malinis family.

Basketball teaches me to work with people, communicate, and focus. I use this in school to get good grades in order to play basketball. Both things are important and I have to work hard at both to get better to succeed in the future. (Ethan Malinis)
